W 14 / Time´s Up: Physical Narrative Prototyping

Jednodenní dílna rakouské umělecké skupiny Time´s Up - externí odkaz z Lince, v rámci které budou moci účastníci prozkoumat metodu tzv. „physical narrative” (fyzického vyprávění). Tento tvůrčí způsob zprostředkování sdělení, který je založený na řízené imaginaci a představách možných scénářů blízké budoucnosti, skupina rozvíjí již 20 let. Time´s Up chápe „physical narrative“ jako příběh, který je inscenován v reálném prostoru a který má publikum možnost zkoumat prostřednictvím hledání nových informací, dat a souvislostí.

Účastníci workshopu získají vhled do některých z dílčích metod, které skupina ve své práci používá, prostřednictvím čehož pak budou moci porozumět tomu, jak může být „fyzické vyprávění” vyžíváno k zamýšlení se, komunikování a obecné diskusi nad možnými a preferovanými vizemi budoucnosti v sociálně-uměleckém kontextu.

Lektoři workshopu:

Tina Auers ve své práci s lehkostí osciluje mezi uměním, vědou a výzkumem, technologiemi a zábavou. Členkou skupiny Time´s Up je od jejího založení v roce 1996. Spolu s kolektivem pracuje na konceptech, realizacích a evaluacích jejich interaktivních architektur. Ty chápe jako soběstačné světy, které se dotýkají scénářů každodenního života a možných budoucností a které návštěvníkům i jí samotné poskytují hravý přístup k realitě, probouzí ducha objevitele a činní průzkum světů a příběhů, které je oživují, všeobjímajícím zážitkem. Tina spolu s Time´s Up procestovala Evropu, Asii, Afriku a Austrálii. Linz je její základnou od roku 1992.

Tim Boykett se narodil a vyrostl v Austrálii, v Rakousku žije od roku 1991. Pohybuje se mezi matematikou a mediálním uměním, performancí a interakcí. Jako zakládající a dlouhodobý člen Time´s Up se Tim se zapojuje do konceptualizace, plánování, výstavby a prezentace projektů fyzických narací, jakož i dalších experimentů, workshopů, performancí, již celkem 18 let. Tim současně působí jako výzkumný pracovník v oblasti algebry, kombinatoriky a výpočetní techniky a výsledky své práce publikuje na mezinárodním poli.

Workshop bude veden v anglickém jazyce.

One day workshop with the Time´s Up - externí odkaz Collective from Linz, Austria in which the participants will be guided through the visioning of a physical narrative based upon some guided imaginations of near future scenarios.

The workshop will involve developing an understanding of the drivers and critical uncertainties that apply to a question, in order to develop several scenarios of possible futures. Within these scenarios, worldbuilding and then storyworlds will be developed in order to imagine possible fragments of what we call a physical narrative. A physical narrative is an immersive, experiential situation, set up as a walk-in and walk-through installation, which we will then envision using moodboards, headline generation and related techniques.

Participants will gain an insight into some of the methods we use and through this exposure, come to understand ways that physical narratives can be used to think about, communicate and discuss possible and preferred futures in an art-context with socially relevant topics.

Lecturers:

Tina Auers' work oscillates almost carelessly between art, research, technology, entertainment and science. She has been part of Time's Up since it was founded in 1996. Together with the collective Time’s Up, she works on the creation, conception, implementation and evaluation of media-enhanced, interactively challenging, physically substantial architectures. These she understands as self-contained worlds that allude to scenarios of everyday life and possible future settings, that provide visitors/users and herself with a playful and fascinating approach to the mixed realities they proffer, that fan the flames of the spirit of discovery, and make the act of exploring these worlds and the narratives that animate them an all-encompassing experience. She has toured Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia with works such as Mind the Map, Unattended Luggage, Tales of Resilience, BodySPIN, the Hyperfitness Studio and Sensory Circus. Linz has been her base station (i.e. workshop & lab complex) since 1992.

Tim Boykett, was born and grew up in Australia, has been living in Austria since 1991. Operating between the areas of mathematics and media art, performance and interaction: the boundaries have been and remain fluid. As a continuing founding member of Time's Up, Tim has been involved in conceptualising, planning, building and presenting extended interactive mediated physical environments for the past eighteen years. There have been four main phases of work: the Hyperfitness Studio series, the BodySPIN series, the Sensory Circus and the current series of Physical Narratives. Interwoven in these developments and installations have been a series of smaller experiments, workshops, performances and other events. Essential to this work has been an ongoing theoretical development. Parallel to this, Tim has been active as a researcher in algebra, combinatorics and computer science with several publications in international journals. His work here has included the analysis of computational models for physical processes, modelling of processes and computation as well as structural analysis.
